A Grand Teton Morning by Kurtis Sutley

December 2020 - A Grand Teton Morning

About the Image(s)

This was shot this year on a road trip to the Northwest. I used a canon 6D MkII paired with a Tamron SP 24-70M f/2,8 at 70mm, 1/800 sec. f/2.8 and ISO 100. Image was processed in Lightroom then exported to Topaz DeNoise AI and sharpened in Topaz Sharpen AI. Contrast was boosted back in Lightroom. I used a tripod with a 2 second timer and vibration compensation off. The original was shot in Manual and Raw.

I like the beautiful landscape with the trees in the foreground, the lake and mountains in the middle and the interesting sky. For me, it is a bit flat. I think that increasing the contrast, bringing out more detail, cropping some from the top would make it a stronger image. You could also try flipping it horizontally.   Posted: 12/02/2020 22:05:50

I agree with Art. This view of the Tetons, always gives us wonderful shooting opportunities and this is the proof. I probably would not bother myself to con.vert a scene with great colors to a B&W photo. If I could I would go there and with a wide angle lens retake this shot. A nice image nonetheless.   Posted: 12/08/2020 01:50:41

Kurtis, this is a beautiful mountain, lake scene. I like how Art increased the contrast and cropped it a bit at the top. A beautiful picture to hang on your wall!
Hope your wrist/arm starts feeling better soon.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Holiday and Happy New Year. Be safe and stay healthy.   Posted: 12/19/2020 12:15:28

Kurtis, I like this beautiful scenery . and I think Art is right. This image needs more contrast only because , nowadays, our eyes are trained like that ( we all look at pictures on screens) . But it depends what the Artist himself wants to convey. To me , your picture looks like a Vintage picture and maybe this is what you wanted to express. In that case it is successfully achieved in my opinion. Happy Holiday season.   Posted: 12/20/2020 17:00:26

Kurtis, I do miss this beautiful part of the USA, very nicely done. I agree with Art adding more contrast but not as much as he did. I like your composition which is nicely balanced and I would not crop it (perfect the way it is). Feel better soon and wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year.   Posted: 12/26/2020 18:44:22
