Corpus Christ Day by Gabriele Dellanave, PPSA, BPSA

August 2019 - Corpus Christ Day

About the Image(s)

Very popular celebration in Italy. In several places from the Alps to Sicily this is strong tradition to decorate the streets, for the Procession, with flower. A unique and interesting tradition. Since we were there my family and I my son insisted to me to use his drone to shot some images. I did and you can see the results. I must say that I'm not a fun of Drone Photography, but I had to try to convince my son and a few other skeptical people here and there. I think that you can do magic with that toll, but you need much more effort, to put into, than what you would do with a camera. And also I believe that the system is more suitable to video than photography. Here the data: The drone was a DJI II with a camera lens of 26.3 mm. f/ The lens aperture was 4.3 equivalent to a 26 mm in a full size camera. Shutter was 1/2500 sec. at f/.2.2. Post production in PD/LR cc. I like to know your reaction.

I think that the image effectively captures the street scene and is fairly sharp with descent color. I am sure you had a good time. For me, cropping more tightly, bringing out more detail and increasing the saturation would draw more attention to the decorations and the action on the street.   Posted: 08/05/2019 20:57:27

Thank you Art. My intention was trying to show some of the surrounding, area, because if I show only the drawings it might doesn't make much sense as travel image. That is true even if I go lower with the drone. my cropped image is just like yours but it doesn't change much.   Posted: 08/08/2019 14:27:26

Gabriele, you were in a perfect position to try the drone and I think you did a good job. I do like your cropped version, it brings more attention to the drawings. Very interesting but I hope you got close ups too!

The drone is a good choice to get this bigger view above all. But all in all handling a drone has so much more restrictions in public I don't see the fun in using it.   Posted: 08/30/2019 13:16:47
