See My Blue Feet? by Marge Barham

October 2018 - See My Blue Feet?

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken long ago on my most favorite photo trip ever, The Galapagos Islands and yes, this is the Blue Footed Booby showing off his bright blue feet. Taken with my first digital camera, the Canon Rebel Xti, with the 75-300mm kit lens. My settings were f5.6, 300mm, 1/2000 sec, ISO 200.

I think this is a nice capture with his foot raised and the nice details and colors. I do find the burned out area on his chest distracting. If you had used exposure compensation wen the image was taken you might have been able to reduce the highlights. If you shot in RAW you might still be able to recover the details. I used the clone tool to try and restore some details.   Posted: 10/04/2018 21:59:42

Thank you Art! As I said it was long ago, before I even knew about raw and exposure compensation.   Posted: 10/20/2018 18:33:14

A nice moment. I think Background may be blurred more.   Posted: 10/05/2018 04:09:12

A nice capture Marge with a good out of focus background. The overexposed front is a bit distracting and could be recovered in raw. It is always a challenge to get a correct exposure with such contrasting tones. Exposure compensation in conjunction with the histogram on your camera are great features to overcome that.   Posted: 10/13/2018 00:36:50

Thank you Gerard! As I just mentioned to Art, it was long ago and way before I knew all of the bells and whistles of my camera.   Posted: 10/20/2018 18:35:56

Marge you got a nice capture, it can be improved, of course, as suggested but that it doesn't diminish the overall composition and color. I like a lot the you wear down on your knees to capture the bird. That's an important point often overlooked by many photographers. Good job.   Posted: 10/19/2018 15:44:19

Thank you Gabriele! This photo just makes me smile! It was taken long ago and before I knew the capability of my new camera. It is much appreciated that you took the time to point out the good points.   Posted: 10/20/2018 18:46:50
