About the Image(s)
Driftwood Beach ~ A secret shore on Jekyll Island, GA offers solitude and haunting beauty. Ghostly tree-skeletons rise from the sand and the peacefulness is only interrupted by birds flying overhead. These trees died from erosion that has taken place over the last hundred to two hundred years. I spent a few days here taking morning and afternoon photos capturing many different moods of the beach and trees. I used my Canon 60D and my settings were 18mm, f/8, 1/800, ISO 200.

Very well seen Marge and one can see that you have given it a lot of thought. I agree with Art on brightening up the image to give it even more impact. Your composition is great. Well done.   Posted: 07/13/2017 09:50:42
Great eye for a wonderful scene. Adding Art's suggestion would do good.   Posted: 07/23/2017 05:32:04

Thank you Art, Gerhard and Kerstin. I agree with you Art, with everything except maybe the flip. I certainly have have to learn how to look at a photo and see that it needs more contrast. Thank you.   Posted: 07/23/2017 11:21:32

The flip is only a suggestion and whether it helps is a subjective judgement.   Posted: 07/24/2017 13:44:53

Beauty exists anywhere. Photographers have the eyes to find the beauty. I like the composition and background color which matched the object well. Yes, It looks better if increasing a bit brightness on the background as Art's version.   Posted: 07/26/2017 17:00:04

Marge, your image is very nice, nicely composed, sharp enough and in this case the flipping helps in some ways the overall photo. However in my humble opinion I think that the chopped tree is a fatal flow. My eyes are always end there. If you have the file that include the entire tree I would like to enter both pictures in a International salon. I might be totally wrong.   Posted: 07/26/2017 18:22:16

Hi Gabriele,
Thank you for your comments and advise. I see what you mean about chopping the tree. I looked in my files but I don't have anything with the whole tree in the photo. I can only guess that there must have been a lot of debris along the shore line that I was trying to avoid.
I did find two other examples that I did pretty much the same thing in Photo 1 and then you can see why in Photo 2. I will email them now. Thank you.
PS: Sorry, but I had to send you full size photos, I'm having trouble with my computer.   Posted: 07/26/2017 19:33:48
