About the Image(s)

An old wharf at Semiahmoo Spit. Nothing really special about the camera settings on this image or post. However, here in the moment, waves of light and time have bent their will on the aged works of humankind. Perhaps we see the organized patterns of our lives shredded and twisted as we reflect upon ourselves.

Hello Ham: Your explanation of intent was so good. I look at this old building fading away in the water and yes, I see shreds of past lives going with the building. This is an interesting use of reflection. I don't have any comments that might improve this image. Good job.   Posted: 05/06/2022 17:52:45

Thanks Lee Ann, Not always successful, I do attempt focus on stories that can be told and feelings evoked. Those are very subjective intentions of course. Good technique is equally important as well. Still learning here at both.   Posted: 05/08/2022 18:57:53

Ham: I like the pilings. They give me a sense of the sturdy, which lasts and what is washed away. This would probably make a good abstract, but I like the "real" that is portrayed here.   Posted: 05/26/2022 09:54:15

Part of me wants to cut off the pilings and the blue water and leave just the colors and make it abstract. I feel like I'm getting pulled to the bottom as one subject and to the colors on an another. I think it's great as an abstract.   Posted: 05/16/2022 00:04:28

Thanks for the good suggestion, Bob. For this composition I did leave the pilings in to indicate a firmer foundation to the more stressed 'higher world'. I've also considered a more selective crop as you suggest, but haven't settled on an approach yet.   Posted: 05/16/2022 13:22:26

I like the concept and the reflections in the top of the image. I'm a bit confused with the pilings at the bottom and how they relate to the top. I like Bob's idea of cutting the bottom just below the top of the pilings.   Posted: 05/19/2022 12:48:44

Ham, I like the image and also like the idea of cutting off the bottom. That would make a wonder textured image.   Posted: 05/22/2022 10:36:42

Thanks for all the inputs on cropping the bottom, good points made by all. Here's what that looks like :-)

Ham, I see two images here: blue and rust at the top and almost a monochrome tweed suiting fabric below. At first i wanted a more severe crop, eliminating all of the water at the bottom, but decided that the retained bit of the pilings gives the image a needed base. I love your poetic, philosophical descriptions.   Posted: 05/28/2022 00:19:41
