Young red winged blackbird by Peter Cheung

April 2021 - Young red winged blackbird

About the Image(s)

This picture was taken at Juanita Bay Park in Kirkland, WA. Juanita Bay Park is an urban park where wildlife co-exists peacefully with city dwellers. There are nearly 200 species of birds in the park. The one in the picture is a young red winged blackbird. The camera settings I used are Nikon D850, Nikon 200-500mm, 1/1600 sec, ISO-2200, 500mm. In post-processing, I used Topaz Sharpen AI to reduce noise and sharpen the bird. I need to crop the image to make the small bird larger, and also brighten up the image a bit.

Peter, this is a beautiful image. Very sharp and crisp bringing out the details in the bird. The shades of brown bring out a very nice contrast. I also love the bird's beak.   Posted: 04/18/2021 19:52:33

What a sweet, little bird. Tho we have redwings near-bye I don't think I've ever seen a chick. How long was your lens? Especially considering the extensive cropping, you have wonderful detail of its feathers and a well-muted background.   Posted: 04/18/2021 21:15:09

Enlarging the image. Today I came back and enlarged the image. Love the detail around the eye.   Posted: 04/26/2021 22:09:19

Lovely, sharp and nice colours. The bird stands out well and has details. Its good that you have captured the image when the beak was open. Well done.   Posted: 04/24/2021 11:19:18

Peter, perfectly executed...and the subject behaved as well :-). Your image is very realistic and not overstated...that is very skillful on your part.   Posted: 04/28/2021 22:25:38
