Two Frigates Flying by Bob Scott

February 2021 - Two Frigates Flying

About the Image(s)

We were riding on a Panga, a tender for ferrying people from our ship to one of the Galapagos Island. There were fisherman in a small boat in the bay and they attracted attention from birds, such as these two frigates. This was taken with a Nikon D750 with a Tamron 150 to 600mm lens, probably fully extended. Settings are ISO 1250 F13 1600th. Because of the motion of the waves, everything was set to get a fast shutter speed to avoid motion in the picture.

Very nice capture, especially under the conditions to get the shot. Greater detail with the clouds would add more depth.   Posted: 02/19/2021 13:20:35

Nicely done...tack sharp and excellent composition! As Peter says...especially considering the conditions. The tonal range is fine as is...and there's an interesting pattern in the wings that might be more impactful if the blacks and midtone exposure level could be enhanced. An excellent Bird In Flight image!   Posted: 02/22/2021 13:47:09

You have done a good job freezing the motion on these amazing birds. I don't know if you have more space on the right, but the image would be even better if you had some space for the birds to fly into. You don't have to stick to a standard frame size, this would make a good panorama.   Posted: 02/22/2021 14:18:04

Very nice capture of birds in flight. The focus and details of the two birds are very nice also. One suggestion is to denoise the image little bit as the sky seems to be quite noisy, and I can see some dark spots due to dust or dirt from the camera sensors.   Posted: 02/23/2021 23:13:04
