Let it Snow by Howard Frank

February 2021 - Let it Snow

About the Image(s)

I had an assignment from a photography class I am taking to photograph snow. I went out a week ago and walked around my neighborhood and captured this image. I like the way the snow is clinging to the trees. I processed in Lightroom and Photoshop and converted to black and white.
Taken with my Nikon D850 and Nikkor 16 to 35 lens at 24mm, ISO 800, 1/4000 of a second at f/4. Because there was both blacks and whites in this scene, I did not have to make any exposure adjustments.

Howard, this is simply a beautiful image. Conversion to black and white was the right call as it adds greater detail. The street and sidewalks glisten creating a dreamy effect. Beautiful!

The snow scene and the branches of the trees are beautiful. The composition of the image is also very nice. The b&w conversion is definitely better than color for this image. Beautiful capture.   Posted: 02/19/2021 18:52:20

Most impressive! All the techniques you've applied have resulted in a true perception of depth. I feel as if I'm looking at the work of a master engraver. I'm entangled in this and not wanting to leave :-)   Posted: 02/22/2021 13:53:00

I like the partially shoveled sidewalk leading between the trees. And especially the delicate patterns of the major tree, limbs enhanced by the snow on the branches. Ham said it, it looks like and engraving.   Posted: 02/25/2021 18:28:37

A nice B & W shot with good use of leading lines.   Posted: 02/26/2021 09:13:40
