Tufted Puffin by Peter Cheung

September 2020 - Tufted Puffin

About the Image(s)

The picture was taken last month when we joined a Bird Watching tour in San Juan Island. It was an amazing tour with small boat, although I had a little bit sea sick especially wearing a face mask for the whole trip. Seeing the little birds diving and catching a lot of fishes is just amazing. The camera settings are Nikon D850, Nikon 200-500mm, f/8, 380mm, 1/3200 sec, iso-500. In post-processing I have to highly crop the image to make the bird larger.

Stunning image. The colors in the birds eye and beak are crisp and clear adding to the "fish catch". The detail is amazing!   Posted: 09/17/2020 19:22:37

It appears from the image that the photograph has been made from almost the same level where the bird was and you moved with the duck. Nice capture, sharp and good colours.   Posted: 09/18/2020 03:06:42

The best Puffin photo I've seen! Excellent technical quality and lighting/composition. Additionally, the texture of the water surface adds an ethereal dimension, a counterbalance to the dynamics of the Puffin. Bravo!   Posted: 09/19/2020 10:52:26

You have perfectly captured the puffin's distinctive markings in wonderful, sharp detail. I love their unique habit of carrying all those little fish, sardines? Also his contrast with the smooth water and even the reflection. Well done! I'm sure you are entering it in Nature. This could be an illustration in a bird book.   Posted: 09/23/2020 01:09:56

Wonderful image. You captured the peak of action with its mouth full of fish. Good color and sharpness. You managed to keep detail in the whites.   Posted: 09/24/2020 09:41:43
