Springtime Escape from Sheltering-in-Place by Helen Sweet

May 2020 - Springtime Escape from Sheltering-in-Place

About the Image(s)

Our San Francisco counties were the first in the nation to require sheltering in place, so I've been at home since March 16. We do take walks while maintaining safe social distance. A few weeks ago, when the California golden poppies, our state flower, were at their best, I discovered this lovely scene on a nearby ridge. Taken with my iPhone 5S. I cropped, eliminated some distracting items, moved others around a bit, and added a vignette.

The angle from which this was captured combined with the subtle pointing arrow like shape of the flowers makes for a very powerful leading line towards the tree. I think design feature is what separates this image from so many other that are taken in this location each year.

I feel you did an excellent and most creative job of putting this landscape image together   Posted: 05/13/2020 08:19:13

A beautiful scenic image - love the composition and the colours, textures, and sharpness throughout. I only have one suggestion - would prefer to see a couple of poppies in the foreground a bit closer up. Well done.

Good to see such a soothing composition. A few more flowers in the foreground would have increased my interest in the image.   Posted: 05/19/2020 01:40:55

Or crop a bit from the bottom?   Posted: 05/19/2020 12:19:56

Wonderful image Helen, I love the color and texture you achieved. I wonder what it would look like if you made the sky a little bluer.   Posted: 05/19/2020 11:34:08

Just the bottom. Or would any darkening overpower the landscape?

Your end result is a beautiful landscape, well composed with the both the hill and the line of flowers guiding the attention through the image. Maybe a little bit off the bottom but it doesn't really matter. Well seen, well done.   Posted: 05/26/2020 21:57:24
