About the Image(s)

This juvenile Green Heron got a little windblown while sitting on a rock by the lagoon at the Chicago Botanic Garden. This was taken with my Nikon D500 and Tamron 28 to 300 mm lens at ISO 400, 1/320th of a second, at F 7.1.

Very nice nature image. The bird is nice and sharp, showing plenty of detail in the feathers. The background is also very suitable for this subject. My only suggestion - would be tempted to darken the rocks just a bit.   Posted: 10/06/2018 11:01:12

Nice shot, well captured. Its good to use sky as background as we do not get distracting elements.   Posted: 10/19/2018 23:28:09

Nice composition. On my monitor, the bird seems a little "flat"...like it needs a touch of saturation. I'm not sure about the vignetting as it appears to me to make the background too noticeable because of the light circle around the bird. Overall though - good capture...you know how picky I am :)   Posted: 10/22/2018 12:38:17

Great capture. The bird is sharp and quite detailed. The vignetting with the bright background looks little bit odd. I would prefer darkening the upper half bright background instead.   Posted: 10/22/2018 17:52:24

Just a bit of wind, the hair do is interesting. Your composition is good, balanced. The rock is a base, and mimics some of the colours of the Heron. An attractive subject.   Posted: 10/23/2018 19:08:20

Good, sharp capture. He does look distressed, not just the ruffled feathers, but his face, too. Or do they always look like that? I like the repetition of his colors in the rock as well as the neutral background of the sky. . . .with more subtle vignetting.   Posted: 10/28/2018 12:02:43

The bird is sharp with good detail but I feel the composition could be changed. Making this image square would have added space in front of the subject for room to move, cropped some rocks and sky and probably removed the need for a vignette. A burn on the white bits of rock I feel would draw more attention to the subject. Nice bird portrait.   Posted: 10/30/2018 17:01:58
