About the Image(s)

Title: Moon Landscape

This image is taken from my veranda a few weeks ago. We had a period with very colorful clouds with help from smoke from America and dust from Russia. Sometimes pollution is beautiful :). The three distinct layers of clouds is something I haven’t seen before and I found it rather surrealistic.

It is not often I use my 150-600 mm lens for landscape photography, but this time it was right.

The post production is limited to some cropping and enhancement of colors using luminosity masks to separate the tones.

Camera: Canon 5 D mark 4 with Tamron 150 - 600 mm lens at 374 mm
ISO: 100, Shutter: 1/640 s, Aperture: f/10

For me, changing the color temp really made the image. It almost looks like three separate images blended together so it was quite an usual cloud formation. I like the post processing to bring out the texture and formation of the clouds. I might consider cropping down a bit from the top so the image is not 50/50 cirrus and other clouds since the while layer cuts right three the center of the image so I am not sure which set of clouds you want me to focus on.   Posted: 11/06/2020 14:52:53

Good point about the cropping, Michael.   Posted: 11/06/2020 15:28:37

I've been fixated on this image for quite a while now and finally think I've figured it out.

The layers of clouds are incredible--so much so that they are all I look at. Thus my suggestion is crop off the black at the bottom. As I look at the image on the Group page I don't even notice it. (an alternative would be to put a fine white stroke around the image to call attention to the silhouetted land at the bottom) The I would crop of the very dark clouds at the top. You would still have a foreground, a mid ground and background. This would make the entire story about the clouds and that would not be a back thing at all.   Posted: 11/07/2020 11:28:53

Great picture, great color, however, I agree with Larry that you could crop most of the Black forground and it would improve the photo or not. Hard to say how one would improve the picture. All-in-all a very good photo of clouds.   Posted: 11/07/2020 18:09:41

Great image! I love cloud photos. I do agree about cropping the bottom. I did not notice it until I read the other comments. I'm not sure about a top crop. I think the idea does have some merit, but you should experiment with that to see which way you like it better.   Posted: 11/13/2020 00:15:07

I have never seen clouds like this. I think I would leave it just the way it is. Your processing is excellent!   Posted: 11/17/2020 12:07:11
