About the Image(s)

I still have not been able to get out and shoot a new IR, so I thought I would go look around the house and try shooting some macro with my Nikon d5100 Ir camera. Shot at ISO 500 1/100 sec. I found an old Nikon 55mm film lens and PK extension ring adapter and just started looking for things. I found this old mangled up CD laying around and tried shooting the back, I like the way the old lines looked. I zoomed into the image a bit more and found something that looked like some kind of weird creature. I know it's not your typical IR photo but just wanted to make something new.

Processed with Capture One 20, and Photoshop 2021.

Good for you for trying something different Nelson. I have never tried Macro - Full stop. And certainly not in Infra Red. But to let your imagination run riot you can see something that could be a semblance of ET, or as you say weird creature out of a Sci Fi Film.   Posted: 02/07/2021 04:26:23

In these strange times it is indeed difficult to get out to shoot something new. I found this quite intriguing and had to look closely at your original, and your explanation, to work out what it was. Indeed it does look like a strange creature. One of the problems with macro photography is the shallow depth of field which can only really be overcome with focus stacking but full marks to you for trying something different.   Posted: 02/14/2021 08:28:32

This is an excellent example of why we need to look closer at the ordinary things in our environment - not just now when we are so limited in subject matter, but always. Good job finding this and imagining what could be done with it. I like the curved lines of the stone work. I just wish more of it was infocus.   Posted: 02/14/2021 11:19:02

I really like that you extracted this detail and worked with it. My mind keeps creating stories about this photo (I like your creature idea). Bravo for revisiting some older photos to find little gems like this. Agree that a bit more DOF could have added to this but I still like it a LOT!!   Posted: 02/16/2021 09:55:14

I agree that it is different but for me so different that I have no idea what it is that you photographed. I feel there should be something recognizable to bring the viewer into the scene.   Posted: 02/18/2021 08:33:57

Great exploration. Some wonderful textures in this hidden space.
Have you tried focus stacking to increase the DOF?
