December 2019 - Boats in Lake

About the Image(s)

This was taken about 3 years ago whilst on holiday and unfortunately I cannot find the folder I had the original in so am only submitting the worked on one.
Taken with my usual Nikon converted D100. This was very simply processed, although tedious, but at the same time enjoyable and in a way therapeutic.
The image was converted to Mono, and converted to RGB mode. . From there on in it was coloured by painting in the colours with a brush of different sizes and feathering and picking the colour I wanted in the colour wheel at a low opacity and building the colours up to my requirements setting the blending mode in the Layers Palette to Colour. A bit of an experiment needing time and patience but feel I might try it again to try to improve the technique.

This is a lovely tranquil scene with the boats providing a strong focal point. Overall I like the colour which looks reasonably natural except on the trees where I feel it needs to be applied with a little more subtlety. I might have cropped the sky out to get rid of the lens flare. A great effort though, I am sure you spent hours on it and I admire your patience.   Posted: 12/11/2019 05:05:27

Beautiful colors, and what great patience you have!
Maybe darken the orange grasses in the front a bit, and I agreed with Julie cropping off the lens flares will make those boats more of a focal point.   Posted: 12/11/2019 23:03:39

This is a beautiful scene and you have captured it well in my opinion. I find the golds and blues very pleasing; however, the green is not working for me. Maybe Julie is on to something with her suggestion about making it more subtle. I find myself wondering if it would not be better if they were white. Lots of options here and you are a master of post processing, so I would bet you will hit on just the right treatment for those trees.   Posted: 12/16/2019 11:33:59

What a lovely scene, you always have such beautiful photos and this one does not disappoint in its capture. While I admire the work you went through, I think I would subdue all the colors. I think this would be stunning if it were more pastel. I think your most stunning works have used more delicate coloring and agree with Sharon, you are a master at post!   Posted: 12/16/2019 14:16:05

I like the image when I first looked at it then read how you accomplished it and am very impressed with what you did. The only aspect that mars the beauty for me are the greases in the foreground. When I cropped much of the base area I felt the boats became important, which to me are the center of interest. I do like your choice of colors for the boats with the orange colored boat standing out a bit more than the others. Great job, Helen. colors   Posted: 12/23/2019 09:21:37
