About the Image(s)

The image this month was not created by a composite using a background and adding elements. Rather it was created as a set up using objects to tell the story and created mostly in camera. The main player is the Face Jug. Face Jugs were used in the south to hide spirits from the children. The faces were usually quite scary to scare the children and keep them away from the jugs. I liked this one because it was more impish-looked sort of inebriated. The base was added for the face jug to sit on, and then the rest of the story was created/added. The little mouse on the left looks like he is enjoying some of the liquid from the jug. The empty cup on the right turned on its side might have been filled with spirits and maybe finished by the jug or some other unknown.

Several textures were used to create the background for the story. The flowers were added to tie everything together. And there it is.

Love your use of added textures. And the composition of your still life image. Boganvillea adds a nice touch.   Posted: 01/01/2021 18:40:02

As Fran and Kerstin have indicated, this is a 'texture" image, and you have done a wonderful job of bringing out that texture. As the original still life has so much contrast, it's amazing that you saw the final image the way you did. Nice image!   Posted: 01/04/2021 18:15:02

This still life has a wonderful feel to it. The setup in the first place was very good, but your treatment has made it something special.
I like the quirkiness, the colouring, the texture. What's not to like about this image.
Best of the month for me!

What a fun image Candy - I love it! You did a great job of composing the still life scene. At first I was a bit confused as to what the shiny ball was, since there was only one, but then realized it was one of the feet of the plate or stand. The jug is so very cool. The face is endearing and I love the fact that you left the cork top ajar a bit, which gives the scene even more interest. The final coloring and textures are great. Nicely conceived and processed!   Posted: 01/11/2021 14:11:56
