About the Image(s)

The two Volcano images are of Mount Etna. I took the image of the male at a LARP event. I have no idea what I am going to do when I start these images. I extracted him from the background and after popping many backgrounds in, I felt the volcanoes looked the best. I put a small amount of shadow behind him, after I finished the image, I noticed he could have done with a tummy tuck, so went back and got rid of that LOL. I added the flame coming out of the gun and lightning with Particle Shop. I added a small amount of rain. Then Colour Lookup Night from Day to make the image darker and lowered the opacity to 25%. I added light rays from a Florabella Overlay and masked out bits of it. I also added a Florabella texture over the top, then a levels adjustment and vignetting. My DIL suggested I needed another element so I added the truck, then I had to try and make it look like I had placed it there in the beginning. He now has a reason for being there. I snapped the truck in Italy. Should the truck be larger? I was going for the scorched earth destruction look in the end. Maybe it should be brighter? Critique is very welcome.

An entertaining image with a story (thanks to the truck!) Maybe I could ask you to organise a 'tummy tuck' for me!
Particle shop has some interesting effects, but I find many of them work at their best with smaller images - I think I'd have used Eye Candy for the flames.
I think your positioning and sizing of the truck are fine and the scorched earth look is right for the location and the image.
Well done.

Your special effects add atmosphere to this scorched earth composite. Well done. Everything works so well together. My only suggestion is to darken the man a bit. He looks too bright to be among the other effects. For me, the truck is fine. You must have had fun creating this world.   Posted: 12/10/2019 09:32:57

I enjoyed reading your account of how you arrived at the final image. All of the elements work nicely together and I think the size of the truck is just right. The lightning and rain enhance the mood and destruction theme. The flame coming out of the gun doesn't quite look like a flame to me, but I'm not sure that matters. I've used the PS filter to create flames a couple of times and it's quite versatile (Filter>Render>Flame), but it does take a bit of experimentation at first. This is a fun image; nicely composited!   Posted: 12/11/2019 16:45:43

I like your ideas for the combination. The rain is a crowning touch!
To me, the man does not quite blend into the composition. He is too close to the center of the image, in my opinion. It's dark and rainy, so he should be less saturated and not as bright. The fire from the gun, however, does need to be bright.

I cropped the image on the left, to place the man at the third vertical line. I then selected him onto a layer of his own, and applied a saturation adjustment layer, lowering the saturation. I also applied an orange photo filter adjustment layer to the entire image. I tied the saturation layer to the cutout layer (Alt click on line between layers). On the orange photo filter layer, I inverted the mask to black and painted with a large low opacity white soft brush over the entire image.   Posted: 12/13/2019 21:36:31

Denise, everything works well together in this image. The rain, lightning, dark clouds and fire. I do agree that the man is a bit too bright compared to the other elements. Georgianne's crop and darkening seem to complete the image. Good job.   Posted: 12/16/2019 21:32:10

A thought-provoking image, Denise. I like Georgianne's crop.   Posted: 12/25/2019 12:01:19

Hi folks thanks for the comments. After I first sent this to Steve, I did a rework and had the crop the same as Georgianne. I agree about the flame and I am going to try and fix it. Unfortunately I was repairing my laptop I dropped and smashed my data hard drive and at the time my One Drive was not connected so I lost most things I did in the last 6 months. I am hoping I can find at least a jpeg copy of my final image and try and fix the flame on that.
Just my life LOL Oh and I also purchased the wrong type of SSD drive, I purchased a 2.5 and needed an M2. So now I have to buy another one. Grrr   Posted: 12/27/2019 16:01:09
