About the Image(s)

This month's image is a monotone conversion of a horse close-up. It was taken with a distracting, bright background. I feel that the conversion to sepia makes it into a better image that creates greater feeling to the viewer. The image was process in RAW. Detail was added to the horse and especially the eye in OnOne. A texture was added to remove the background and removed from the horse with a mask. The image was converted to B&W in Photoshop. Then I used Topaz Hand Tinted Chiffon in the Opalotype Collection to give it a more antique look. Next, Nik's Darken Lighten Center, Glow, and Vignette were used. Detail was added to the nose with OnOne, and the image was sharpened in OnOne.

A wonderful conversion. You've brought out so much detail. I particularly like what you've done with the eye and lashes.
Your use of the mask is excellent - keeping the hair detail isn't easy. And using the texture for the background has worked really well.
Well done.   Posted: 05/03/2019 15:26:38

You've processed this beautifully, Candy. I agree with the other comments. If I were to offer a small suggestion, it might be to clone out the light schmutz spot in the corner of the horse's eye and maybe add a small catch light, since the eye is the star of the image. This is totally nit-picking though. Your filly is lovely and the close up imparts a sense of intimacy with your subject.   Posted: 05/08/2019 16:57:11

I agree with Jan about the close up imparting a sense of intimacy. To take it one step further, the incredible detail adds to that intimacy. If I had my druthers, I'd eliminate the mane on the right side of the horses face. It detracts a tad from the intimacy. However, this is probably an over-analytical observation.   Posted: 05/13/2019 18:54:35

The BW toned conversion really does emphasize the beauty of this animal. You applied a good treatment to it, in my opinion.   Posted: 05/19/2019 06:29:43

An excellent adaptation of a good image. I especially like the toning and the softening of the background.   Posted: 05/26/2019 09:53:51
