About the Image(s)

I took this photograph at the Temple of Fine Arts in San Francisco, California. It's an incredibly beautiful place with a nature preserve in the waters surrounding it. A number of movies have been filmed there. I remember noticing it in Time After Time.

I shot this handheld with a Nikon D7200, f/20, 1/125 sec., ISO-400. In Photoshop, I fixed the image rotation, as the original angle was quite slanted, and cropped the photograph. I increased saturation and then increased the blue saturation a bit more. I increased the contrast and added a curves adjustment. I also removed spots that had gotten into the photo from my lens using the spot healing brush tool.

I like the picture very much. The extraordinary architecture of the temple with the flanking columns, the water pond and the lush plants. What attracted my attention are the numerous birds circling the building. The tree on the right side enriches the picture. It might be worth moving the bottom edge further down so that the visible plants have fewer interruptions.   Posted: 05/05/2022 08:04:18

Hi Marylin, how did you call the bird to fly on ? Ha.. ha.. ha.. Those birds make this static temple become dynamic. The tree create nice framing to the temple. Attached are my idea from your original image.   Posted: 05/06/2022 21:01:05

Thanks so much, Arief! The nature preserve in the water surrounding the building attracts a lot of birds. I was very lucky the day I was there - so many birds were flying around!   Posted: 05/11/2022 22:04:04

Hi Marilyn. All in all a good architectural shot. The only piece that bother me a bit is the bright sky. I thing Arief has summed it up well with his editing of the sky as to what is needed to improve it   Posted: 05/10/2022 10:32:00

Hi, this is an interesting image that I thought it was a scene of a science fiction movie that pterosaurs are flying around a palace. By cropping the grass out, making it more feel like a habitat of dinosaurs. And it is really a beautiful place to visit.   Posted: 05/15/2022 13:54:15

I must say this is very elaborate for a museum, does look an a amazing place that you could spend half the day taking shots. The birds flaying add to the feeling of the image well and I like the two people in the image as they give great scale to the buildings. I would work on the dodge and burn to bring a touch more depth to your image. But one for the list if I ever visit.   Posted: 05/16/2022 04:36:45

When I look at this image I want to visit - what a beautiful place. Good shot, with the birds adding to it, highlighting the architecture and the environment. I would agree with Francois that the sky could be improved, which would make the temple stand out even more.   Posted: 05/18/2022 06:06:06
