Single Tree by Raymond Zurschmitten

April 2021 - Single Tree

About the Image(s)

In the attachment I send you my photo for the month of April. I have the following information:

The image was taken with the Fuji X-T2 at 1/4 seconds, aperture 22 and ISO 200 with 55 mm (lens XF50 “ 140 mm) and a tripod. The image was processed with minimal editing in Lightroom.

Near where I live there is this beautiful single tree with a curved path leading over the hill. I photograph this scene from time to time, here is a shot from May last year.

I think "The long and winding road" would be a good title also. Nice composition. You might try pushing the greens and yellows a little... Perhaps highlighting the right side of the tree and perhaps the lighter swath of grass just below it. Make it look like sunrise/set and the first/last rays of the sun hitting.   Posted: 04/02/2021 23:34:39

Thank you very much for the feedback. I have edited the photo as indicated. Lightening the dark areas works and improves the image. The effect towards sunrise or sunset is harder. I think I will go there once early in the morning or evening, and then take appropriate shots again.   Posted: 04/04/2021 04:57:45

Nice composition .. road as leading line, the tree in horizon, this is a good example of applying composition.   Posted: 04/04/2021 08:54:00

You have found a lovely composition with the S-bend path and the single tree at the top of the image. There is a nice sky coming in from the right and I know this is early morning looking at the light but the tone is coming across very flat over the grasses and I wonder if you could lift this a touch in Lightroom.   Posted: 04/13/2021 06:45:12

Thanks for your good suggestion. I have now made a gradient from the upper right with increased clarity. I have attached the result.   Posted: 04/16/2021 04:47:45

Hi Raymond
I am so drawn to this because of the composition,as the road bends away the eye is taken straight to the tree,I actually like the lighting as it is it adds an atmosphere a moodiness to the image,I think this would also look really good in mono as well   Posted: 04/16/2021 13:32:39
