Rainbow Falls by Randy Dykstra

July 2020 - Rainbow Falls

About the Image(s)

The Lower Falls in the Yellowstone Grand Canyon shot in May 2020. But the great thing about this photo. I was the only person at this site, period! Yellowstone is typically overwhelmed with tourists and the parking lot can hold hundreds of cars but this last May was a unique time and I had no problem whatsoever social isolating.

I have seen this falls in perhaps hundreds of images. This is the first time I have seen it from this right hand angle good for you for skipping the standard shot and getting somethng different.   Posted: 07/04/2020 18:40:57

I look at this and all I can think of is the local club judge coming up with the comment that I wish you had taken 10 steps to the left and a whisper comes from the back, "then I would be dead and you would not be up there making silly comments". I say that as it happened the other week. So embracing.
You have captured the scene that was in front of you wonderfully and to have the rainbow is just the added bliss. If it was mine I would want to see if I could get hold of the brights with a lights 4 in luminosity masks and just see if i can hold them back. But must have been fabulous to see.   Posted: 07/08/2020 12:10:54

Actually, since I was the only one there... I did take as many steps to the left as possible. More than normal.   Posted: 07/08/2020 16:30:35

BTW Paul, the Rainbow and water vapor played all sorts of tricks with Luminosity masks and any saturation or Hue adjustments. Masking where the rainbow crosses snow banks was a problem. Enclosed RAW image   Posted: 07/09/2020 17:42:59

That must have been a magnificent experience, especially since no one else was there! It's awesome to see the rainbow and snow in that gorgeous setting.   Posted: 07/14/2020 03:52:51

Impressive scenery with a beautiful waterfall. The rainbow and the steam give the water additional meaning. The portrait format fits and gives the waterfall the right relevance. I really like the photo.   Posted: 07/19/2020 10:28:41
