Spring Day at Bodnant by Paul Hoffman

March 2020 - Spring Day at Bodnant

About the Image(s)

Bodnant Gardens is a national trust property in North Wales that is quite famous for its Italian ornate terraces, but it is a vast garden and has many meadows that have been left to their own growth and this is what you get in May on a lovely sunny day. When there are no screaming kids and no dogs barking and all you can hear is the gentle wind blowing and the bee’s humming and there was a lot of bee’s, I can't think of much more tranquil.

Lightroom developed with gentle colour and tone adjust and yes the sky was that blue thanks to the polarizer. Slight tweaks on the green and yellow channel.

Excellent camera work. Sharp, colorful and well exposed. Here is a crop suggested if you are interested in narrowing the viewers focus.   Posted: 03/10/2020 18:01:13

I wish I could have strolled through those gardens. You set the tone of tranquility perfectly. My only suggestion might be to enhance the yellow flowers a bit. Great capture.   Posted: 03/13/2020 14:35:52

I guess this one comes down to "what's the subject"? If the green stuff is the subject, maybe burn in the building and suppress it's influence.   Posted: 03/14/2020 14:02:51

I agree, in part, with Bob, both... The house is in the center and thus tends to imply its the subject, yet everything else is bright and colorful. I would actually consider a much tighter crop as the large tree creates an imbalance, to my eye, in Bob W crop. You would lose the vastness of the meadow (which may be contrary to the intent), yet still have all the other elements.   Posted: 03/15/2020 11:02:28

A successful picture with a good composition. I like that the tree on the left is shown completely and that the beautiful building looks between the plants. I would also crop on the right side, maybe a little less than Bob.   Posted: 03/15/2020 12:20:35

Beautiful setting! It reminds me of the setting for something in the Fantasy genre, with a miniature house surrounded by gigantic trees. There's something quite magical about that. In order to have the house be the main focus, however, I think Bob's cropped version works very well.   Posted: 03/16/2020 00:55:48
