Seealpsee by Raymond Zurschmitten

October 2019 - Seealpsee

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken at the Seealpsee in the Swiss mountains. I was on my way from the Meglisalp to the station and had to stop to capture this beautiful scene. Technical details: ISO 200, f14.0, 0.7 sec with tripod and GND filter. The picture was minimally edited with Lightroom.

Raymond, you live in a too beautiful area. I am jealous. Nice balance to the photo and the two boats in the foreground add an element of interest and keep the image from being too balanced   Posted: 10/07/2019 12:37:43

Thank you Ken for your feedback. In the USA there are also beautiful spots, I think of Grand Canyon, Yellowstone Park and Niagara Falls. The difference to Switzerland are the great distances that separate these places.
I am also of the opinion that the boats fit well into the picture. Without it the picture would have less expression.   Posted: 10/10/2019 08:44:54

You have pretty much checked off all the great image boxes with this image. Exposure check, composition check, tone check, color check, framing check. I love the symmetry in your view. My only suggestions would be to re-take this when there are clouds, and I'm not a fan of the two boats in this composition. I would make them a separate image. You have enough pixels that it could work well.   Posted: 10/07/2019 18:15:50

Thanks Bob for your feedback. I agree that clouds would embellish the picture. I edited the picture with the 2 boats - I find the result attractive.   Posted: 10/10/2019 08:52:39

It would seem that I am the only person so far that mentioned the boats, and I'm just giving you an option of adding another image for competition, and as I said this is a great image.
Clouds can also be added seamlessly in Photoshop too, if you wish. I take photos of skies and keep them around just for those days when nature destroys my best laid plans.   Posted: 10/10/2019 09:10:41

Thank you very much for your answer. I think I will repeat the picture on occasion including clouds.   Posted: 10/10/2019 11:00:54

Raymond. you have made the perfect photograph, IMHO. The beauty of the scene is breathtaking. I feel the boats add another layer to the story. Perhaps two fishermen stopped off to explore something along the way. Or maybe a young couple stopped for a swim or picnic. The image is bright, but no ugly shadows or bright spots, the sky looks polarized, but a nice deep blue, it is well focused, and nicely framed up. Beautiful.   Posted: 10/09/2019 21:42:34

Thank you Elizabeth for your comment and the addition that the two boats can tell a story. I'm not responsible for all points, the great nature and some luck helped me a lot.   Posted: 10/10/2019 09:43:21

Oh this must have been wonderful to just stop and take in the moment of being there. You have captured and wonderful image that would grace many a postcard or birthday card. The reflection is brilliant and is lifted by the two rowboats. I would not alter this.   Posted: 10/14/2019 06:07:54
