October 2018 - Broadway Tower at Dawn

About the Image(s)

Canon EOS 30D – Canon 18-125mm @ 44mm. ISO100. 1/100 F7.1 Time July 4.43a.m.
An early morning outing to capture some sunrise images and the sun was just below the horizon but was throwing this lovely like light over everything. 10 mins later it was so harsh it was not worth taking. The sad thing, two seconds before I took this and why I stopped, there was a stag standing profile on to the right of the tower and shot off just as I raised the camera.

Very little processing done, slight colour balancing and a touch of sharpening.

Broadway Tower was the brainchild of the great 18th Century landscape designer, Capability Brown. His vision was carried out for George William 6th Earl of Coventry with the help of renowned architect James Wyatt and completed in 1798. It now forms the centre of a country/nature park that is always full at the weekend.

What a bummer about the stag, that would have been incredible, actually quite credible and if the gate was not in the picture. Nice early morning light. Could you bring out the sky colors a little more?   Posted: 10/11/2018 08:59:39

I like your subject and fine technique and composition. If your sky had a bit more contrast and saturation of all the colors, it would add a bit of drama to the "dawn" part of your title.   Posted: 10/12/2018 18:38:41

Sometimes very early light is much too dull to provide good definition and I believe that's the situation here. Adding contrast might help but could hurt the mood. Might be worth a try to see the result. It might also help to bring more detail to the sky.   Posted: 10/21/2018 15:10:07
