About the Image(s)

I took this photo late one evening as we left a National forest in the Rocky Mountains. The name of the forest escapes me at the moment. I saw this tree and had to stop to capture it. Little processing has been done. Mainly just a little vignette.

Taken with a Canon 60D and a Canon 24-105 lens, FL 45,SS 1/500,f 11,OSO 100.

That sky is wonderful and has some beautiful tones, and I like the way you have just given us a glimpse of the vastness of beyond. I think the foreground will hold its own but just needs a touch more work.
In Lightroom singing the adjustment brush, just brighten up the shadow detail so we can see more of those great textures that you would have seen when you were there and I think you would have a winner.
I had a quick go using luminosity mask but you would do much better with the Raw file.   Posted: 07/14/2017 02:09:42

Thank you for you kind words. I do not use LR- frustration with it very nearly caused me to give up photography. But I love using ACR and that is generally the only place I make changes. So I will work with the adjustment brush and see how it looks.   Posted: 07/17/2017 22:16:59

Hi Elizabeth,
I like you idea about a silhouette of the lone tree but to me it feels underexposed. I agree with Paul that the foreground
might be lightened a little. I can't help but feel that the tree is the most important element and if the tonal contrast was greater between the tree and the sky, the tree would be even more prominent to out eye. One of the things that I appreciate from the group is when someone tries something with my image that they may see differently than me. Here is one idea from me but just remember it is just an idea for discussion   Posted: 07/18/2017 14:30:06
