About the Image(s)

This is an old shot from one of many events I have attended. I hope this one has a bit more interest than the standard “all in a row” wedding shot. Unfortunately, the bride was holding a large fan. I did mostly manage to get rid of the blue hanging ornament from behind her head.

Bride posing for a best portrait photo while her friend dealing to put earring with great care. Eyes of both ladies telling their targets. Summer wed dress of lady on the left looks like Turkish Anatolian hand knit dresses. Good edited, well-done Stephen.   Posted: 06/01/2020 04:18:09

Thank you, Ata. This was taken on the terrace of our Alaçata, Turkey home, and I am sure you are right about the dress of the bride's friend. I don't have a good shot of the womens' hair salon that had just finished, but it was fascinating to see the entire staff of a hair salon come to our home to do the wedding party hair.   Posted: 06/01/2020 10:42:13

I think the bride will love this shot. I felt the white dress was a bit too bright so I darkened the highlights using shadow/highlight in Ps. I also darkened the right hand corner pattern on the fan as it detracted from the faces. I cropped to take out the highlights in the foliage behind her and the bottom corner and you were right to remove the ornament.   Posted: 06/07/2020 05:49:26

Stephen,
Beautiful memorable shot. I love it in black and white and Diana's edits are "right on"

Candid Wedding photos---I know them well having shot way more than my share of weddings.
I do like the B/W conversion for this and while the bride and her dress are the stars--I would bring down the highlights of the dress just a bit. I would certainly crop some of that fan on the right. It is so large that it takes attention away from the bride.   Posted: 06/07/2020 18:08:23

Stephen - I agree the narrower crop makes the image stand out. And the b&w version is more interesting that the color one. Nice.   Posted: 06/13/2020 08:58:00

Yes, monochrome is the way to go. I like what Diana did with the image, and agree with Larry's suggestion to crop off the hat. That would also crop out the bright flowers in the upper right corner that is a distraction.   Posted: 06/13/2020 14:15:16

I don't have much to add to the ideas that have already been shared here. I, too, like this image in monochrome, and I think the closer cropping that Diana suggested helps to eliminate the bright spots and bring my attention to the women.   Posted: 06/29/2020 00:05:23
