About the Image(s)

Taken with Nikon D7500 and Nikon 18-300mm lens at 48mm, 1/100 second, f8, ISO 800. Taken in September at a photo shoot in Cass, WV. Converted to B&W in Photoshop. I did darken the gravel at the left side and front. I liked the smoke in the trees behind the train as it was coming out of the trees. Made the image sepia to make it look more like an old time photo.

Tom,
Wow! You got my attention. I love the sepia image more than the color. I feel the strength of No. 6 and am not distracted by the trees that surround the train in the original photo.

It is interesting that the bright green of the original does not contribute to the color version. It seems that color can be bright, but still not be an attraction. Your finished image looks good to me. I particularly like the white puff--the whistle?   Posted: 12/10/2019 09:36:58

Thanks for your comments. Yes, the engine was using it whistle.   Posted: 12/10/2019 12:31:10

I agree with the above comments - and sepia rather than just simple monochrome is correct. It adds to the subject in away that is in keeping.   Posted: 12/10/2019 13:38:03

Me too! I like the sepia treatment. I wondered whether you could increase the contrast just a bit on the front of the train as sepia always loses contrast. We don't have trains like this in GB so they always look strange and wild west to us Brits!   Posted: 12/20/2019 09:28:16

Great capture! I've seen this train when I was in Cass WV. Sepia is definitely the appropriate choice here.   Posted: 12/27/2019 16:17:55
