About the Image(s)
About 2 weeks ago a group of us from the camera group I belong to all made the effort to get up and get over to the beach by 5:30am to catch the sunrise. It was a steamy Florida morning, but I was glad to go and we did get some clouds to give our images some interest. I needed to crop a bit and then convert to monochrome using Silver Effects Pro. I chose the neutral density filter, then lightened up the pier a bit.

I find your offset composition interesting, emphasizing the expanse of the sea, and by implication, the small scale of human endeavor. Of course, given enough time, human endeavor has been able to ruin our planet, so my simplistic remark is perhaps also wrong:--( In one of the other groups this month, our colleague there did the same thing with a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, emphasizing the open water of San Francisco Bay.   Posted: 08/07/2019 19:58:14
Love it. It is peaceful and serene. I think your effort was worth it!   Posted: 08/09/2019 15:48:38

I'm never sure about sunrises or sunsets in mono, because for me the whole point of being up at that time is the wonderful colour. So, I agree with Stephen that the position of the jetty is good. It leads into the open seascape and the brightest part of the sky is just beyond it so becomes a focal point, but I wonder whether the rest of the sky actually needs even more darkening to emphasise it.   Posted: 08/10/2019 08:33:39

Now I really like that! The colour just lifts it completely! Much nicer than the mono I think!   Posted: 08/10/2019 09:06:08

The monochrome image is very stark but the dock or walkway is a good lead in line to the bright area in the sky, which helps show that it is a sunrise or sunset. The negative space on the right shows the expanse of the area. I like the color much better, and think that it is really great.   Posted: 08/10/2019 15:00:50
