July 2017 - Profile building

About the Image(s)

This photo was taken in Buenos Aires, in the Puerto Madero area, in February of this year.
Technical specifications: CANON EOS 7 D camera, CANON lens 24-105 mm. at 45 mm, ISO 200, speed 1/200 sec, f / 13.
It was opened in Camera Raw and after some adjustments, I opened in PS and converted to mono with Silver Efex Pro 2, high contrast mode.
I gave more contrast to the building with the "Levels" tool and then selected different parts of the sky to improve the contrast and lighting of the clouds.
What do you think about the photo and the work done?

Very good job with the clouds; and also with the vertical correction--I assume you did that in PS. You have novel compositions--this one is interesting because you shot only the top half of a building. That composition, plus your angle, and the pointed design of the building, all give the impression of a bird flying. I am reminded of Brancusi's "Bird in Space."   Posted: 07/10/2017 08:46:59

It looks like a very odd building. Why do architects need to make such pointed structures? It has the same look as the Shard in London and a similar building in Liverpool designed to look like a ship's bow because of its location adjacent to the waterfront and connections with the strong history of sailing. Your picture does show the shape against a very good sky, but I wonder whether these types of shot do well in Competitions. The tonal range is good and it stands out well with lots of detail but is it exciting enough to get acceptances? It's a bit too centrally placed in the frame to be pictorial although it is obviously dominant in the picture. I'm not sure about it but I would definitely have taken it myself.   Posted: 07/10/2017 17:08:55

While the entirety of the building is nice, clean, and sharp, the clouds do a lot of work to make the photograph interesting. The dark portion of the clouds define the building's edge well. About competition? Only one way to find out.   Posted: 07/17/2017 09:12:13

I really like this image. It's crisp and sharp and plays well off the clouds. Centering the building (in my opinion) gives it power and strength, allowing the building to become a formidable opponent to the fierce sky.   Posted: 07/19/2017 16:22:47

This is an unusual building. Your adjustments to the contrast helped to emphasize the building, but they seem to have added some extra noise/grain in the sky. They also seem darker on the right than the left. Was that intentional? Although the building is intriguing, the image leaves me feeling a bit unsettled. I'm wondering if a plain background might better emphasize the lines and curves of the building.   Posted: 07/27/2017 23:34:57

Nice profile building... I would add more contrast to sky and building. In competition, building pics can do okay but they need to be unusual or unique. Good image.   Posted: 07/28/2017 20:55:24
