Band
We are still in the streets of Kolkata, now having passed into the wholesale flower market and come to a central area with tea cafes—and a band! I became daring and got pretty much on top of this man to take this wide-angle shot. We are under the shade of canopies, but there is some full sunlight peeking in at the back, so I cropped out most of that, as well as cropping in as tightly as I could on the trumpeter. After the set was over, I tipped generously.

The scene is interesting and looks spontaneous.
Technically I'm surprised that, having been taken out with a wide angle, the rest of the members of the band without having a better effect.
I would also try to darken the two upper angles a bit, which are too light and too noticeable.

I think this is in the country of Turkey. Environmental (or street photography) photos: You get what you find, and the wide dynamic range caused by the bright background spots, "adds" to the environment. I'm still trying to learn my wide angle lens and you've demonstrated a couple educational things.....that I've learned from.
You made the primary subject obvious and the "rest of the band" supports the subject nicely.   Posted: 07/17/2017 09:27:39

i really like this as the man's cheeks are so obviously working hard to make the sound. If you are not using it for a PJ competition, then you can adjust a bit more. As Wes says, darken the very bright parts on the left and right frame edges and subtly brighten the faces of the men. I'd also brighten the instrument he is playing to give it more emphasis. This is a super shot.   Posted: 07/25/2017 12:55:14

You are much braver than I would be to take a photo like this with a wide angle rather than a telephoto lens! I do like how the angle helps emphasize the trumpet player, and agree with the others about trying to darken the bright upper corners so they do not draw attention away from your subject. Also, I agree with Diana that it might be worth experimenting with darkening the drums and brightening the trumpet a bit more to add additional emphasis.   Posted: 07/27/2017 23:57:51

Nicely done with a wide angle. I agree with the other comments that a slight darkening of the bright spots on either side of the frame would be less distracting. You've captured a real vibe with this image to the point that I feel I'm standing there, almost hearing the band's play.   Posted: 07/28/2017 14:08:38

Very good PJ image... Wide angle shots can be different and distorting - we have one put don't use it much. Stephen, use detail to sharpen the detail in your image. Also, use healing tool to remove the white specks on the ground, on clothes, on hair that are distracting. Then add a radial circle dark to darken the corners of your image. Good travel pictorial image.   Posted: 07/28/2017 21:38:19
