About the Image(s)

Another from the archives this portrait was taken at Liverpool Comicon 2017 the photo was taken just inside the reception area at Liverpool Exhibition Centre so a busy background so I dropped in a black fill layer and brought the subject through. I have had success with the colour version of this image so thought I would try a mono conversion.

How I did it

Camera Canon EOS 70D lens EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM f5.6 1/200s ISO 200 focal length 47mm Canon Speedlite 430EX camera mounted and fitted with a Rogue Flashbender 2
RAW image was opened in photoshop and basic adjustments made, black fill layer added and using a brush and opacity the character was brought through some dodging and burning, sharpened using a high pass filter and a 2px stroke added

Ian - an excellent portrait as usual and well processed with the eye being drawn to his face and detail retained in the hair. Great tonal values and a menacing look which adds drama to the image - well done!   Posted: 04/07/2021 09:00:21

HI Ian: Yikes! I'd hate to run into this fellow any place, much less a dark alley:-)... He could almost be called Edward Scissor Hands... Or dagger hands....Nicely captured and processed. I like the vignette which really makes this character take center stage.   Posted: 04/07/2021 20:32:59

A very effective telling of the story.
Quite disturbing in fact.
The lighting and processing are perfect for the subject.   Posted: 04/14/2021 15:04:56
