Bedouin Woman with tattoo by Paul Roth

September 2020 - Bedouin Woman with tattoo

About the Image(s)

The image was taken in the North Sahara. She reluctantly let me take her image, as she stuck her head out of her tent. The photo was taken with a Nikon D5, 70-200 lens at 2.8, 1/500, 2000 ISO. It was opened in Lightroom, with basic adjustments made to the exposure, shadows and highlights. I then converted the image in Silver Express Pro. A few areas were burnt in and a 2 pixel border added. I was very taken by her eyes, apparently looking right through me, and her well weather face.

A very powerful portrait Paul. Very good use of selective focus to isolate her from the background and excellent exposure.   Posted: 09/08/2020 11:44:48

Paul - To my eye, this is a very nice capture. Her bindi adornment on her forehead is probably a sign of her religion or cast (?) and might have been the reason for her reluctance in the photograph. I like the way you handled the background. Nice catch light in her eyes as well.   Posted: 09/08/2020 16:49:53

Paul, another powerful portrait.
You have shown the lady's character very well indeed.
I cannot suggest any improvements!   Posted: 09/09/2020 04:24:30

Paul - yet another very strong portrait. Her expression suggests that she agreed to be photographed under sufferance!

I would suggest darkening down both shoulders - those light areas are just a little distracting.   Posted: 09/09/2020 07:01:31

Paul a very strong portrait. The eyes look right into the viewer. Nice job in getting the catch light in the eyes. I have no suggestions on improvements. Well executed.   Posted: 09/11/2020 13:43:30

Hi Paul
Amazingly powerful portrait the face beautifully lit as the side of the scarf on the right hand side as we look at her my only suggestion I would like the lighter areas in the background taken down a little more but this portrait is up there with the best.   Posted: 09/15/2020 16:16:47
