About the Image(s)

Zabriskie’s Point in Death Valley is an iconic location for landscapes. This image was shot at sun rise this past January on a workshop visit to Death Valley. CS Camera with 24-105 lens shot at 1/10, F10, ISO 100 and, of course a tripod. I converted this image to BW using Nik, then added a levels and curves adjustment layers, added a 3 pix grey stroke and called it done. The HOT days we are having here in Arizona remind me of Death Valley.

Ella, this is an excellent image of the deserts here in the southwest. Dry, hot, and mountainous describes most of Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and certainly the Panamint mountains in Death Valley as shown here. Well done.   Posted: 09/08/2020 11:49:45

Hi Michael - thanks for your feedback... I love death valley for it's remoteness and beauty... but, luck with the clouds is not always something we can count on.   Posted: 09/08/2020 16:41:05

Ella, a very nice landscape.
The nature of the environment is very well depicted.   Posted: 09/09/2020 04:26:22

Ella - a refreshingly different take on Manly Beacon and you were indeed fortunate to have some cloud detail. Great detail throughout the image and the peak of the Beacon sits nicely on the third without overwhelming the image. Been there several times mainly under cloudless skies and saw no sunrise colour in the sky.   Posted: 09/09/2020 07:09:23

Peter - thanks for your feedback...I have a color shot of a crazy climber standing on top of manly beacon...same composition, but only had my 24-105 lens with me b/c I only planned on taking landscape shots.. he is a teeny weeny silhouette and most would not even notice him in the pix...so, I opted for this one instead. A great location and better with clouds.   Posted: 09/09/2020 08:42:07

Hi Ella, I haven't been there, however, your image has given me the incentive to go! The peak in the foreground, has some ghosting on the left side, at least on my monitor, that could be fixed. Aside from that minor issue, very well done image.   Posted: 09/11/2020 07:25:52

Hello Ella. Its been a long time since I was in the valley. Makes me want to return and see it with new eyes. Nice composition, with what Peter identifies as the manly beacon ( I didn't know its name), well placed to make a very effective image. Nice range of tonalities through out the image.   Posted: 09/11/2020 13:52:35
