About the Image(s)

May I start by sending my best wishes to all for their well being and safety.
You may remember last months image I said I had previously been photographing a lone tree this is it situated on the first set of dunes from the tide line and totally exposed to the elements you can tell the prevailing wind is a westerly but if you want a pointer due east you have it.

How I did it

Camera Canon EOS 5D Mk III lens Canon EF24-105mm f/4L IS USM f8 at 1/500s ISO 100 Raw file adjusted in photoshop converted to mono using a gradient map on an adjustment layer sharpened using a high pass filter and a 2 px stroke added

HI Ian: A very minimal subject... and, often less is more. Lucky you... great clouds to boot! Nicely done!   Posted: 05/07/2020 13:01:34

Hi Ian - that tree has certainly had a hard life which is emphasized by it's isolation and presumably remote location. Nicely captured, framed and processed and the strength of the sky is a bonus. I would consider marginally darkening the marram grass in the foreground and adding a touch more contrast in that area.   Posted: 05/08/2020 03:50:09

I very much like the composition Ian. I feel as Peter pointed out your image would benefit from a few minor tweaks and a slight vignette.   Posted: 05/08/2020 15:43:51

A picture that tells a story of hardship.
I like this image quite a lot.
I am reminded of a tree near to me which is similarly distorted but, unfortunately, has a fence in the way of a decent image.

I tend to agree with the groups comments.   Posted: 05/11/2020 04:02:44

Very nice tight composition with the tree growing on the dune. It reminds me of the grass covered dunes of the barrier islands along Virginia and the Carolina's. Well done Ian.   Posted: 05/17/2020 20:13:03
