Still Life Books - Book End by Ella Schreiber, QPSA, APSA

December 2019 - Still Life Books - Book End

About the Image(s)

This is a still life taken with studio lights in photo club’s studio. Three lights and a reflector were used for lighting. FF Camera, 1/125, F16, ISO 200… These are books and a book end sitting on un-painted weathered wooden planks.

Ella - a good record/archival image capturing the detail in both the books and the bookend. Well lit, captured and processed, but it does not hold my attention for very long.   Posted: 12/16/2019 07:47:18

Well photographed but not a very interesting subject!   Posted: 12/22/2019 05:21:51

I like the lighting. It gives me a sense of time, waiting. I also get a feeling of "old" and perhaps cherished volumes. Not sure what your intent was but I believe it was there; a message trying to be expressed.   Posted: 12/22/2019 15:19:33

Ed, thanks for your comments... You nailed it... the lighting makes this image in my opinion... technically well done, I might add myself! I do believe still life photography is as or perhaps more difficult than landscapes...   Posted: 12/22/2019 17:12:03

Hi Ella
So this how its done properly you have retained detail throughout which proves your lighting was perfect the highlight on the horses neck really emphasises the sweep the more I come back and look at this I so really appreciate the sublety in the highlights brilliantly lit and processed so well done.
Very best wishes for Christmas and a peaceful New Year
