About the Image(s)

Technical: Canon EOS 5Ds; 180 mm f3.5 Macro lens, 1/350 sec, f10, ISO 800. I rarely shoot macro even though I have a good lens. I don't really understand how to effectively use macro photography, and with what subject matter, except perhaps flowers. So this image attempt was an exploration.

The color image was worked in Nik CEP dynamic contrast and detail enhancer. The image was then processed in Topaz Glow filter with a very reduced opacity. Original was then converted to B&W using Nik. A red filter was applied to darken the green background and brighten the reds and yellows. The green background shapes were further reduced by burning in to diminish their importance. The image was reduced in size and some sharpening was applied using a high pass filter. Finally a 16 pixel white stroke was applied. I like the image for its abstract nature and range of gray tones.

HI Ed: What an interesting image! I like your composition as it is. Nice highlights and textures as well.   Posted: 11/10/2019 15:39:26

Ed - this image has grown on me! Strong composition, interesting textures in the flower head, but I am not convinced by the background - I think pure black would be more suitable - subjective of course!   Posted: 11/11/2019 08:01:27

The composition is very good and the plant is excellent.
Along with Peter, I am undecided about the background.
A black background would be more usual and would make the leaves really stand out.   Posted: 11/12/2019 02:08:41
