My boss at works son got married in September to his partner I was not asked to do the photos my boss but was told I was doing them not my forte but an order is an order I started at the brides house at 6.45 in the mot morning doing the make up shots then round to the grooms house for 11 to capture the preparations on the other side of town the couples young son was getting rather fractius understandably with all the preparations so Phil the groom picked him up to settle him and I took this shot in a tender moment

How I did it

Camera Canon EOS 5D Mk III lens CanonEF24-105mm f/4L IS USM canon 430EX speedlite settings f5.6 125s ISO 200 focal length 47mm RAW file processed in photoshop converted to monochrome using a gradient map on an adjustment layer contrast and brightness adjusted cropped slightly from the top vignette added sharpened using a high pass filter and 2 px stroke added .

Hi Ian: A very touching moment captured beautifully. I found the background wall not the shadow a bit distracting. Overall a nice image.   Posted: 10/10/2019 18:45:34

Ian - a very tender image- well rendered. I love the expression on the kid's face! I would consider removing or at least reducing the brightness of the light catching the moulding of the skirting board, it is a little distracting.   Posted: 10/11/2019 13:46:05

Thanks Peter I will attend to the highlights on the skirting board it was in a club comp last Friday and the judge really didn't like it but you can't please everyone.   Posted: 10/13/2019 12:44:04

A wonder image Ian. If I were altering it at all I would reduce the shadow, it is somewhat distracting.   Posted: 10/11/2019 16:58:04

Ian a priceless expression, the perfect moment. Well captured. I agree with the others regarding the background shadow. However nothing can overpower that great expression.   Posted: 10/14/2019 15:01:43

Ian, what a super image which catches the moment perfectly.
The suggestions for improvement are sound but it is great as it is.   Posted: 10/17/2019 04:00:15

Hi, Ed!

Beautiful situational portrait, I really like it. This photo starts an interesting story and introduces the main characters. I want to see the whole story, I'm sure that a whole series would be interesting.   Posted: 10/24/2019 02:24:38
