The Arm Rest by Ed Ries

February 2018 - The Arm Rest

About the Image(s)

This image was an attempt to employ light as the main subject. In addition I wanted to capture the sensuous curve of the arm rest. I maintained some detail in the metal arm and the context of its situation by trying to show that it was related to a chair. I wanted an air of mystery as well as a satisfaction of form and light.

Hi Ed
I love shapes in pictures and this is so well seen I love the composition of the chair the exposure is really good the light areas of the chair contrast so well with the darker areas the chair is so well handled and to me perfect my only problem is the back ground I would find a way of darkening it as although its nicely out of focus and not bright the arm of the chair leads me to the background and for me it lets a really good image down, but its your image and you know what you want to portray these are just my personal feelings.   Posted: 02/13/2018 16:10:44

Photography is all about light and you have nailed it here in your graphic image image. Well seen and a strong study in shape and form. I like the merest hint of detail in the arm rest and although I don't have a problem with the density of the background I think that the image would be strengthened by reducing the highlight on the vertical bar in the top right corner.   Posted: 02/19/2018 04:10:53

I myself have tried to create such images but my efforts pale into insignificance compared to this one!
That highlight which Peter has mentioned could be toned down as it is a minor distraction.
Great stuff!   Posted: 02/19/2018 04:16:48

Hi, Ed!

Nothing to add. I'm not quite caught this work, so not ready to comment. No offense! )   Posted: 02/22/2018 08:23:30

Hi Ed: I like your image very much. If this were my image, I might consider toning down the arm rest and burning the background a bit more. Nice study on shapes - good job!   Posted: 02/22/2018 10:11:26
