Ice Ice Baby by Jessica Manelis

January 2021 - Ice Ice Baby

About the Image(s)

With the recent, yet brief, snap of cold weather, I decided to try to take some pictures of ice that formed in the street. I've seen other photographers do this and loved the result. here is mine. I like the abstract quality. I played with trying to make it black and white, but it seemed to lose something. I would love everyone's thoughts. I shot this hand held with my Nikon D7000.

It's an interesting abstract. I agree that the color is necessary. Acting on that, I tinted, making the medium grey slightly blue. It felt even more like ice as a result. I particularly like the result of removing the left and the bottom thirds of the image.   Posted: 01/04/2021 14:30:14

This is a very interesting abstract. I agree with cropping some from left and bottom of the image. In LR I reduced the "texture" and increased the "clarity". Then in Topaz I used AI to further decrease the noise. Also in Topaz I used a "Look" that added a yellow and blue tone to the image. Just an idea. I would continue to play around with colors and effects and see what you like best.   Posted: 01/06/2021 20:25:20

Nice sharp capture of the abstract ice pattern I agree with cropping and tinting blue I would also tone down the glare in the upper left third of the image   Posted: 01/08/2021 22:48:17

Very cleverly done, Jessica. I thought initially that the image was cluttered and too busy. I can see now that the lines draw the eye to the stones in the upper left corner and tie it all together in my opinion. I like Robert and Dorinda's suggested tinting and some cropping, although Dorinda's crop takes out part of the stone "subject."   Posted: 01/09/2021 14:48:49
