Rincon Waves by Jessica Manelis

November 2020 - Rincon Waves

About the Image(s)

I went to Puerto Rico last month and decided to use a completely different camera than I am used to, for the experimental aspect and lately I have been in a bit of a creative rut, so.... I shot this using my Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF6 camera. Hand held. I took this in the morning. I was going for the waves. I know the color of the water is a little washed out, but again my focus was on the waves. I wanted a crisp feel, not the floaty water feel. Open to suggestions.

Lovely photo of the water, rolling wave climbing up the sandy beach, sharp detail in the waves and framing with the rocks. The water on the top half of the photo is a good framer to keep the eye from looking off more detail, Rocks on the right are sharp and keep the attention on the waves and the sand frames the bottom. If it were not for the virus, I would be at the beach every day. Thanks for the photo.   Posted: 11/05/2020 04:58:29

Very nice composition. I'd prefer that the water near the top not look blown.   Posted: 11/05/2020 09:20:49

Nice capture of the rocks and water.
This is the way I like water Most of the time the cotton wool capture of water does not appeal to me Unfortunately it is in style I would crop out the blown out blurry waves on the top   Posted: 11/05/2020 16:19:25

I agree, I prefer the more realistic look as you have shown us here, rather than the cottony appearance. I like your composition, with the waves rolling over the group of rocks. Photographing water is often like photographing snow, the sensor tends to give it a blue cast. I would recommend playing with your white balance and see if you can remove some of the blue cast. Over all, very nice.

I like the interesting patterns of waves and water in this photo. I am with the others in appreciating the detail you have captured in the waves rather than conveying the "water in motion." I wonder if the contrast might be reduced a bit and the highlights darkened to reduce the glare of the water at the top of the picture. Just a thought.   Posted: 11/11/2020 14:49:37
