About the Image(s)

Vanderbilt Estate-taken in August, just before the leaves started turning. Took the picture at a small park about of a mile to the west and gave postcard shots. I used a 17-250 lens at 250 mm, 1/250 sec and f/11. The entire estate is full of photo ops and a pleasure to visit to marvel at the amenities in the castle. Look forward to your critiques.

Technical difficulties seem to be in the background and glad to be back on board.

I wonder how this would look if it were taken from a point a little to the left or right? I can't predict whether moving the castle off center improves the image. I've edited the image, as shown, but my apologies if this is not at all the idea you had in mind.   Posted: 11/02/2020 19:21:53

I agree with Robert I think putting the Biltmore Estate off center is a good idea. But I would crop out even more of the water   Posted: 11/05/2020 16:14:43

We've stayed in Ashville a couple of times and visited the Biltmore. Would love to return! I agree with a slightly closer crop. Looks like you were at the outer limits of your lens range. I don't know why, but when I view it on the website, the image looks dark, but when I loaded it into LR, it was brighter? Anyway, I cropped a little, used the LR radial filter to slightly brighten the Biltmore, and used the graduated filter to brighten and intensify the water. I also took it into Topaz and used AI to remove the noise from the sky. See what you think.   Posted: 11/08/2020 14:36:14

Leonid, did you change the sky? I like your version.

The sky feels a little grainy and the image is little too dark over all. I like Leonids bright sky and his suggestions do give an over-all high-key piece, but I don't know if you have to go that extreme. I would definitely crop off a little of the water, I think compositionally it works better. I would try to go somewhere between yours and Leonids.   Posted: 11/11/2020 12:52:07

Quite an interesting photo. I too like Leonids version with some of the water cropped and the sky replaced(?).   Posted: 11/11/2020 14:34:54
