About the Image(s)

My picture is from our trip to Chili several years ago. It is the original picture with some adjustment on the PS and Topaz. Hope you will enjoy it.

Could you please explain a little more about this picture? I've never seen pictures of glacier ice with the ice looking so dark and opaque. Is this the way it really was? It looks like the sailboat is way too close for safety to the front of the glacier. Are distances deceiving in this picture? The reflections indicate that the mainsail is being blown toward the photographer, but headsail seems to be being blown in the opposite direction. Is this what was happening?   Posted: 10/03/2020 19:06:10

I agree, I am unusually fixated on the appearance of reality. Perhaps this is a result of a lifetime of doing science and the fact that most generally, photographs capture what is there--reality.   Posted: 10/04/2020 05:33:42

it is original picture taking in south Chili on the lake, the glacier were a little be more blue the boat was exactly in this place. What I did it msde it more dramatic as i wanted it to be. You are always trying to get what really is. I am trying to make a picture as i want it see myself. Now it all alloud.   Posted: 10/03/2020 22:14:19

One of the things I like about sharing images is we also learn (I hope) to appreciate different styles. Robert prefers reality, Leonid prefers displaying an emotional feeling and alters his image. I think I might suggest playing with the crop, if you haven't already. Also, I'm wondering if you could lighten the color of the boat hull slightly. Otherwise, very nice.   Posted: 10/05/2020 13:02:45

One aspect of my preference for reality is that if an image has been constructed of components shot at multiple times or places, that the construction not conspicuously reveal this fact.   Posted: 10/14/2020 11:32:38

I love the drama and the altered reality feel. It does look a little like this was a composite of different photos, but thats ok for me. To me the sky and background mountain actually don't fit with the image. They are almost too dull compared to the rest of the image.   Posted: 10/12/2020 10:48:00

What a spectacular photograph! The colors are wonderful and the drama of the scene wonderful as well. I love the light shining on or through the ice and how the colors of the ice and the red in the boat complement each other. Great job!   Posted: 10/12/2020 11:53:09

I agree with Jon This is a real WOW spectacular photo At first I thought it was a composite Like Robert I did not think a ship would sail so close to a glacier Like Jessica I like the altered reality feel The contrast of the blue glacier and red sailboat with the cloud covered brownish mountains on the right contributes to the feeling of the unreality or supernatural   Posted: 10/12/2020 15:45:09
