Baby Pinecones by Jessica Manelis

May 2020 - Baby Pinecones

About the Image(s)

I try to continue to be active during Covid-19, and I go for a lot of walks. I carry my phone, just in case. I shot this with my iPhone. I loved the way they were sitting in the pine needles and the shape of the pine cones as they were ing. I have not done any processing with this. I thought I could make it into a bit of a cool abstract.

The cones, themselves, form a very nice image. I wonder how macro your iPhone can go. The background sky and branches are somewhat distracting.   Posted: 05/05/2020 14:47:01

I find it hard to get true macro shots from my iPhone. It can't get the blur in the background.   Posted: 05/19/2020 10:01:50

I love exploring nature this way. I think this would be a good base for some creative processing. Would love to see what you come up with.   Posted: 05/05/2020 15:10:22

Good composition with the pinecones the center of the needles which tends to keep the eye from straying off of the photo. Some minor dark vignetting would reduce some of the blue sky and out of focus distractions.

Nice photo.   Posted: 05/09/2020 15:17:33

The pinecones are nice and sharp as are the front needles I agree that the cones are the center of interest I would crop in more and maybe eliminate the sky If you keep the sky I would darken it
I have attached my crop I replaced the sky in Luminar 4 but found it did not work on the left side I then cropped in and sharpened with Camera raw filter adjustment brush in PSCC   Posted: 05/09/2020 16:07:48

I love the eye guiding role that the needles play in funneling the eye to the cones. I think Judy's suggested changes improves the overall impact of the picture.   Posted: 05/22/2020 12:26:25
