About the Image(s)

My family and I were on vacation during the week of Christmas. My son (pictured) is a surfer and he wanted me to take pictures of him. I shot this with a Nikon D7000 and a Tamron 70-300 zoom lens. I practiced with the lens at home before we went. I zoomed in all the way. This is basically straight out of camera. I color corrected it in Lightroom. There was another shot I took and debated which one to present. the other one is a bit artsy with whites blown out. Maybe I will show that one next time. I would love your thoughts.

Lovely action, and of a family member to boot. Since telephoto lenses are so sharp, you will still have a super sharp image if you drastically crop from all sides. If you can, it would help if you could rescue some detail in the white area.   Posted: 01/06/2020 18:36:25

Because your camera has a crop sensor you had a pretty good reach with your 300! I love his position on the board and with the wave, he's obviously in the moment and ready to make whatever adjustments are necessary. Would you consider cropping as Robert suggests? I believe it would work better.   Posted: 01/08/2020 16:15:41

Great action photo nice detail, no distractions and the surfer looking for his next move. Colors are nicely saturated . You may try the highlight or white sliders to pull some detail out of the area framing the surfer if it is not blow out. Minor suggestion would be to crop the right side of the photo to get the center of attention more to the right 1/3 on the photo . Very nice work.   Posted: 01/11/2020 12:14:42

Great action capture I always think less is more and I would like to see a crop to just outside the white areas.   Posted: 01/11/2020 20:52:29

Is there any chance that you would be able to reprocess your original and show us what cropping and work on the detail in the wave does to the final result?   Posted: 01/22/2020 08:48:36

Your son will treasure this shot, so make sure it shows him to best advantage. The cropping suggested above will bring him into sharper focus. This is a shot that is definitely worth working on. Good job, Jessica!   Posted: 01/25/2020 19:35:00
