Colored Pencils by Judy Merson

January 2020 - Colored Pencils

About the Image(s)

I shot these Primacolor pencils with my Sony a 6400 with the Sony FE 2.8 90 mm Macro lens on a tripod. Natural afternoon light came from the right and the overhead lights were on I kept the aperture at 9 and chose different areas of the image in order to focus stack. I then focus stacked in Photoshop CC

What really makes this photo is its sharpness and detail across the whole image. This photo is a real accomplishment. It is no easy task to make a good focus stacked image.   Posted: 01/06/2020 18:41:22

Judy, I enjoy this kind of image. You did a great job of capturing the details with your focus stacking. I am not certain if it is as a consequence of the focus stacking or something else, but many of the pencils appear over sharpened. They have a fringe around the edge. See the brown pencil, top center. I know there are ways to reduce that. Maybe someone in the group knows how?

I don't know how to eliminate halos when sharpening except by painting them out. In this case, I like the image better with the halos.   Posted: 01/09/2020 10:46:56
