Dinner at Sunset by Tom Carnahan

September 2019 - Dinner at Sunset

About the Image(s)

The photo was taken at 7:02 PM in early March at Ft DeSoto at low tide. The late time of day gave warm soft colors the lagoon and the Ibis catching an evening meal. The best shooting was when the tide was low and the birds were busy with their hunting. It usually included wading into the ankle deep mush in the lagoon requiring old tennis shoes that could be lased up tight so the mud did not suck the shoes off of our feet.

The camera settings were1/200 sec., at f/7, ISO 400 using a 100-400 mm lens.

Nice capture of the white ibis with a fish. I would crop it closer in from the left. I would also lighten the fish , sharpen the bird's eye and bring out detail in the bird's side feathers I have attached a file showing these changes   Posted: 09/07/2019 17:41:25

I would like to see the beak, especially around the fish, lightened ever so slightly so we can better see the fish. I realize it is evening, but would like to see the yellow on the bird reduced as well. Good capture of a bird in it's natural habitat.   Posted: 09/11/2019 17:46:19

Great shot. I would also not crop it, however I would try to lighten it slightly. It is a little dark.   Posted: 09/17/2019 07:38:51
