September 2019 - Empty Room

About the Image(s)

This was our room at the Lake Quinault Lodge on the Olympic Peninsula. The lodge was built in 1926. As with many National Park Lodges, it has been kept as much to the original as possible. I actually took this with my Android phone. Processed in LR and PS. I thought bw was appropriate to the subject and the mood I wanted to convey.

Nice sharp image Good lighting with the angular shadow. Has an old timey feel. I agree with mono treatment   Posted: 09/07/2019 17:27:13

Good that it is B&W. I like B&W to possess more snap and crispness, as in this modification (increased local contrast). The subject seems neither here nor there to me. It'd like it to have either less furniture to give a feeling of loneliness, or a single shoe or pair of spectacles to show the room is or was inhabited, but make me wonder why the room doesn't look more lived in.   Posted: 09/08/2019 14:16:54

Yes, I wish I had placed something to further the story....

Nice capture of a piece of history frozen in time.
If you were permitted to occupy the room for a time, you enjoy living a piece of history and enjoy it as presented. Nice work.   Posted: 09/11/2019 19:30:13

Nice moody scene. I'm not sure how big the room is, but I would have liked to see more of the chair. The bed post is awkwardly blocking it so I wish you were able to have shot a little more to the right. I like your black and white treatment of the image.   Posted: 09/17/2019 07:38:07

Thanks Jessica, The room was pretty small and I was backed up in the corner as far as I could. Built in 1926 the rooms were nothing like what we expect today, which is what fascinated me about it.   Posted: 09/17/2019 11:41:59
