March 2023 - Absorbed

About the Image(s)

Something a bit different this month. Captured in the waiting area before a helicopter trip to the Scilly Isles.

Nikon D5200 f6.3 1/160th second ISO 1250 20mm lens available light.
Cropped and very little processing before running it through Topaz De-noise.

Yes, I like this type of scene: here, a fine record of local vernacular. Perhaps more accurately, a reflection in the everyday, common and underrated.

To help perfect balance, or what we can say is the "Compositional Structure", I have made a very slight edit: the sample maintains the unique horizontal and vertical lines, along with our two subjects, while cropping out, I suggest, unnecessary distraction from the far right-side, that only interferes with spectator enjoyment and contemplation of the majority of the scene.

Hope you get to read my article in the March issue of the PSA Journal that references compositional structure. (Free online from the PSA website).

Well done, Tim!

Hi Lance, Thanks for the comments and the suggested crop. I agree it does get rid of an element that was distracting and putting the couple slightly more off centre doew strenthen the composition. I will certainly log-on and read your article.

many thanks

Hi Tim. A very nice shot and add me to liking the crop that Lance suggested. I also like the intentional including of the chairs in front of you. That gives the suggestion that this was not a posed shot and that the couple was deep into using their favorite means of communication.   Posted: 03/17/2023 16:02:41

Love this shot - great story, beautiful and real expression on the subjects faces, and nicely photographed & processed. I like Lance's crop as well.
One very minor suggestion - I think I would prefer just a bit more visibility of the seats in front - to help me better identify what they are.   Posted: 03/18/2023 13:57:47

Nice capture of people doing something while they waited. I like Lance's crop to and was going to suggest it before I read his comment. I had to look up Scilly Isles. I always wanted to visit Cornwall, but will have to do it virtually.   Posted: 03/20/2023 19:21:15

Thanks Judy, and congratulations on being chosen for the members showcase. Shame you will not get to visit Cornwall in all its glory. It is only two hours from where I live to the tip of Cornwall at Lands End and there is so much to see in a very small space.   Posted: 03/21/2023 02:21:07
