About the Image(s)

I took this on a trip to Mexico in January 2006 and shot only jpegs then. I liked the lines of the portico, but there were a lot of marks on the columns and it was hard to do much to the original so I played. I did use Perspective Efex to straighten it a bit. I settled on a Topaz filter restyle to get some color that wasn’t too gaudy. I took it with a Nikon D100 and probably a 18-200VR lens at 42mm=63mm. SS 1/180, aperture f 7.1, ISO 250.

Interesting shot. I really like the composition of this. I like the editing that you did to it but I also like it as a black and white image.   Posted: 01/07/2021 10:49:12

Karen, I agree. I almost always convert to monochrome. As an OLD darkroom worker, I love monochrome and most images work as monochrome. I tried several filters with this but some were too gaudy.   Posted: 01/09/2021 16:25:35

Judy, I agree with your liking the lines of the multiple arches and you composed it well. I understand the marks (Rust or ?) are part of its history, but I find them to be lacking. Karens B&W edit makes those marks acceptable, but they don't serve as an interesting point of interest. I might of taken as many steps back as possible and focused on the Row of lights without getting the ceiling marks in the image or I would of used Topaz glow and other filters and totally made an abstract or creative and the rusts marks would then contribute to the image.   Posted: 01/08/2021 19:57:38

Bob,

I don't have Glow, but have most of Topaz and still haven't learned to use most of it. I'll have to work on this one some more as there is much that can be done with it, including passing it by!   Posted: 01/09/2021 16:34:27

Judy, I'm sorry to have confused you. Glow is a filter in Topaz Studio and it is the starting point I use for many of my creations. I don't buy any of their other programs and only use Studio.   Posted: 01/15/2021 21:09:00
