Autumn Snow by Karen Harris

November 2019 - Autumn Snow

About the Image(s)

Nebraska has had a first snow already. It came at the time the leaves were the most beautiful. I took off in the morning early before the snow had a chance to melt. I found this photo interesting because it appears that the snow stuck to this one leaf more than the others for some reason. I used Nikon D750, Tamron 28-200 lens.

Karen, you caught the moment by getting out early as you knew that snow would not remain for more than a few minutes once the sun hit it. The image is sharp and the diagonal branch works. I would if possible moved my camera position to cover the bright spot (sky) with the beautiful snowy leaf. I know, easier said than done because leaves do not always grow at the 5-6' height or without distracting bright sky at their edges. Great seeing and recording as chances of having another opportunity with snow and leaves are slim.   Posted: 11/10/2019 10:50:39

Beautiful capture, nice texture on the snow and love the hue of the leaves.   Posted: 11/12/2019 11:06:49

Crisp clean snow with detail, beautiful autumn color, excellent bokeh. I would try it flipped horizontally to see if that makes a difference for you.   Posted: 11/17/2019 11:44:28

Great catch! I like the way the snow remained on one leaf. The only nit-pick I have is the bright highlights in the background. I tried working on them, but made a mess! I like your version and Bob's--artist choice. Well done and kudos for getting up and out early!   Posted: 11/19/2019 14:05:07

Karen, this is way beyond TOO COOL! I go walking in snowy woods (excuse me Robert Frost) looking for this kind of thing. I get snow and red leaves, but never combined this well. Great find.   Posted: 11/22/2019 12:48:58
