About the Image(s)

Cruise boat leaving Bergen Norway. I put my camera on tripod with lens 70-200mm. I love sceneries over here. My setting is M. Please give me your comments. Thanks.

The contrast makes it hard to capture all the light there. The boat is overexposed and this contrasts with the dark mountain behind. Bergen is a beautiful place and full of photo ops. I tried darkening the boat and lightening the mountain and added some detail.   Posted: 10/10/2019 16:58:52

Sometimes in order to get the shot you see, sometimes you have to try auto exposure. The dynamic range in this image seems really high, so maybe bracketing three images might have helped. Since you were shooting with a tripod your chances of success were favorable. HDR processing has improved lately. I think Judy did a good job with her suggestions.   Posted: 10/11/2019 22:18:49

Gorgeous place. Bergen, Norway is one of the favorite places I have been. I tried enlarging the boat a little since it was so lost in the photo. I darkened and changed the hue of the sky and then increased the saturation of the whole photo. If you don't like it, my feelings won't be hurt. :-)   Posted: 10/16/2019 11:49:52

I applaud your skill in re-sizing the cruise boat (looks more like a trawler to me,) but I also think that the boat, as is, adds scale to the image, as does what I assume is a lighthouse.   Posted: 10/16/2019 14:05:09

Judy did a really nice job at re-touching the photo. Very nice capture, love the small boat as it adds to the story / place. I agree with Bob, this was likely a very good candidate for HDR, from what I have read many photographers sometime stack 7-11 images to create the final one.   Posted: 10/16/2019 13:21:24

I also like Judy's version, and agree on the small boat telling us about the enormity of the place. Stacking is something I see a lot of in the macro sites I visit. Some of the insect images can be a combination of 20, 30 or even more images, and the clarity is astounding. No reason to expect less from stacking this scene.   Posted: 10/24/2019 14:01:42
